If humans end up on Mars in the next ten years, astronauts will need to use as much of the planet’s resources as possible and potentially build habitats to stay there. Chitin is found in the exoskeletons of insects and when combined with Martian soil, results in a potential building material for Mars. Javier Gomez Fernandez from the Singapore University of Technology and Design discusses how Mars explorers can make the most of this peculiar material.
