Let’s release those breaks with Coach Sean Smith!

Coach Sean Smith’s awesome Freebies for us:

Get FREEBIE Here >>

Sean Smith is a father & husband first, speaker/coach/seminar leader second. He has an amazing wife of 16 years and two incredible kids he can’t say ‘no’ to.

What I love most about him is his transparency!

He is 100% flawed, cracked and troubled with all the same internal blocks and challenges that make us sacredly unique and beautiful as humans. Sean is completely obsessed with figuring out this game of life, how the mind works, why we hold ourselves back, and teaching anyone who will listen what he learns.

At the age of 13, he was almost killed by his next-door neighbor, which taught him that none of us, no matter what our circumstances, is promised our next breath. He vowed to live a life of greatness, never settling for mediocrity.

However, despite that promise, he still struggled for the next 20 years. Until he learned about the power of the unconscious mind…

Sean is now a Certified Master Results Coach, Master NLP Practitioner, owns a multiple 6-figure speaking/training/coaching company and is founder of CoachesUpdate.com where he gives people the skills to be a better coach and the tools to build a bigger business.

Sean is known in the coaching industry as the creator of the “$300K Blueprint”, which is a marketing course that helps coaches breakthrough to multiple 6 figure revenues while experiencing more joy and fulfillment in their lives.
During our chat, Sean shares how his own journey helped him help others in their journey towards becoming actualized in who we really are.

Many of us, me included, have been guilty of comparing ourselves to others. Comparing our entrepreneurial or self-development journey to that of someone who is perhaps further along or “where we want to be”. We have to remember though that those individuals we may admire did not begin there. They had their own adventures in life to bring them to that part in their journey.

Side note: I most recently experienced this while watching Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru, last night on Netflix. I am so passionate about helping others and want to serve in a big way, too. So watching the amazing-ness of what Tony created for his attendees at the event, Date with Destiny (the documentary was about this event), made me tear up throughout the entire film. I so badly want to be where I will be in the future, now. But, life doesn’t work that way. And, it’s a good thing it doesn’t because could you imagine what amazing lessons and memories we would miss out if we could just fast forward? The point is to know everyone starts somewhere and eventually gets to that “there” moment we see them as. Tony Robbin’s podcast interview with Lewis Howes on the School of Greatness podcast.

Back to Sean of awesomeness…

So, in those moments in which we are comparing ourselves to others, feeling confused, like a fraud, going through financial distress or the loss of someone near to us- Sean suggests for us to ask ourselves some questions. During these dark and painful times, specifically when it comes to our journey as entrepreneurs, ask yourself:

    • What do I want to do vs what should I do?
    • Who do I want to be for my loved ones? In this planet?
    • What is it that I’m passionate about?

Sean asked himself those same questions. He also believes whole-heartedly that he became a great coach because of the falls vs. the success.

I loved the way he time-lined his first couple of years in business:

  • Month 1-18: Ignorant action
  • After Month 18: Passionate action

During the interview, I mentioned another documentary I recently saw called Happy. It was a great film to experience a global perspective of happiness and to witness the resilience many of those in the documentary had from all the failing and pain in their lives. The documentary revealed how our biology actually equips us to be more resilient in those situations of failure and pain. Being Happy actually had to do with our ability to bounce back from setbacks more successfully due to the challenges and pain we’ve experienced, more so then the happy aspects of our lives. Pain released some sort of endorphins that brought us back down to normalcy faster than succeeding… hence our ability to cope and bounce back were that much stronger for it. Cool, huh?

Sean eased my mind about fears and I hope it resonated with you too! He reassured us that it’s impossible to get rid of your fears of failing and doubt. That should be a breath of fresh air, right? Well, technically…

“MOVE WITH YOUR FEAR, ANYWAY” encouraged Sean. He goes on to explain that it’s within our fears and pain that our highest lessons are embedded.

“Success and failures are NOT two different entities.”

“Failure is in the pavement on the road to success.”

“Are you more committed to avoiding failure or achieving your dreams and growing as a person?”

“Are you willing to move with the pain and the fear or are you going to succumb and retreat to it?”

“Knowledge isn’t transformational until it lives in your cells, in your emotion and your body.”

Sean believes that most people are over-educated and under-executed. I totally agree, because I’ve been there myself…

He reminds us that, “Every one of us has a sacred 100% unique journey on this planet.”

“If you’re going to love the outcomes of this character trait, you can’t hate the outcomes when they are negative. You have to take the trait in its entirety.”

“Create pride around taking action and when we can NOT judge our outcomes but we can judge our effort it’s a total game changer!”

What pulls you forward? That purpose piece does… Then it becomes a positive obligation!

Sean encourages us to become clear on who we are as a person…

“Some of us are pushing the pedal of gas down but their emergency break is still on.”

(I said yes so quickly to the above statement and it totally incriminated me…)

Rather than pressing harder on the gas, Sean encourages us to RELEASE THE BREAKS.

During my favorite question to ask, What advice would you share with your younger self, Sean quoted his dad. During his last conversation with his dad, before he passed away, Sean asked: “Dad, How can I live your legacy, dad? When you’re gone…”

“Be who you can be, do what you can do and live a good life,” His dad responded.

  1. Be who you can be: Be SelfCrafted. Show who you are and show up fully transparent and authentic. The world needs YOU not a watered-down version of someone else.

  1. Do what you can do: If you have a gift, share it! You have an obligation to that.

  1. Live a good life: Whatever that looks like for you; be in integrity, honest with your word, help people, leave a legacy for your family.
