If you’ve been listening in to this podcast for a while, you may wonder at times how does personal development and personal brand marketing intersect.

Well, it’s something I’m continuing to explore and experiment with myself.

What I can tell you is that people love transparency. We appreciate authentic communication and we freakin’ love good storytelling.

That’s where this episode comes in. Before we jump in to all sorts of digital marketing strategies and social media tips, I wanted to get us through the brand basics. So, let’s get personal with your brand and craft your core message.

Heads up: This show’s freebie is a worksheet you can use as a took to get you started (or assess) on your personal brand core message.

You know, the ‘this is what I’m known for’ or ‘this is what I want to be known for’ thing.

Your personal brand core message is the interweaving of your ‘why’, your seeker and your solution (or how I like to say, sol-YOU-tion).

Your why.

In order to have content of sustenance, we need to know what fuels us. Why are wanting to create content in the first place?

If this is a hobby, it’s passion.

If it’s about a business, it may be for providing a need or want.

If it’s a business with heart and soul (maybe even a non-profit or service organization), then it’s purpose plus a mix of the above.

Maybe, you’re just wanting to gain visibility on who it is you are in order to get a job or acceptance in to a program, in that case it’s connection and achievement.

There are so many ‘whys’. Ideally, you want to identify what it is for you, tie it to a stick with a string and keep on keeping on. The journey is an adventure and remember your ‘why’ as it’s encouraging you through is important.

Your seeker.

So, once you figure out all that fuels you in your personal brand, you need to define your seeker. And, I’m not talking about something like:

A woman between 25 and 55 years of age.

I’m talking demographics, psycho-graphics and giving them a name. Once you add a name to all those details, you’ve formed a story and a living, breathing seeker… Well, technically. But, yes.

An amazing example of this is John Lee Dumas’ seeker, Jimmy. Watch the EoFire Meet Jimmy video (Scroll about half-way down the About section and you will see an animated video. It rocks.)

(Side note: John Lee Dumas’ podcast, Entrepreneur on Fire, is ON FIRE and you should check it out via the link or on iTunes).

Once you have given life to your seeker, man things get so much easier. Rather than creating content or making business decisions based on every freaking person in the world, you just need to concentrate on what your specific seeker wants, needs, loves, is searching for, etc.

Check out this episode’s freebie for questions to get you started on developing this.

Your sol-YOU-tion.

We talked about your ‘why’ and your seeker. Now, it’s why YOU? What makes you unique? What about you can be communicated and made memorable?
You are awesome. You are one-of-a-kind. So, what things make you different? How does your personality add to your skill sets and values?

What’s your communication style? Leadership style?

Well, I’m not gonna leave you hanging! Check out these great resources I’ve found to help me discover more about myself personally and professionally (after all it’s all interconnected).

Learn about your personality and your archetype.

Knowing how you fit in to the equation of what your seeker is looking for will hugely impact the ways you can communicate with them and relate to either who they are, what they need, who they want to become, what they want to find or feel, and so on.

After filling out the worksheet (episode freebie), you can start extracting various content pieces and brainstorm how to get your core message out.

You’ve got this!

I would love to hear from you! Let me know what you think of the podcast and tell me if this episode was of value to you.
