Diversity in Beauty Pageants
Manage episode 411296900 series 3567383
Miss Wales, has been running since the 1950's and since then, not one woman of colour has taken the crown. So this conversation covers topics that are relevant to the current climate of improving racial justice in Wales and beyond.
The topics include diversity, colourism, sizeism as well as identifying some of the entry requirements needed to join beauty pageants in general, are they inclusive and relevant in today's society?
This conversation was thought-provoking and could hopefully impart some much needed, awareness for future contenders to think about and most importantly for the organisers to consider about the message around inequality that they maybe unwittingly subscribing too.
Either way, Beauty Pageants are probably here to stay and like every other industry, until these conversations are had, change will never come.
