In this conversation, we talk education with two Black males who have both had very different experiences of working in education.
Daniel Wilson is a Phsyics teacher from Ebbw Vale and has enjoyed a long career, empowering young people to "reach" for better grades, whilst supporting their wellbeing through teaching them the benefits of mindfulness. Daniel shares his experiences when dealing with leadership and opens up about the vulnerability of not being totally open when wishing to express a professional opinion about school issues. All in all Daniel has enjoyed his time as a teacher so far, and always works to the best of his ability keeping the pupils at the forefront of his goals.
Abu Bark, Madden is a multi disciplined professional and expert of Black history. Having returned to education, after a career as a chief, Abu Bakr began a journey of self discovery and personal development, whilst in pursuit of academic knowledge. His thirst for knowledge is seen in his accolades, achieving more letters after his name than the alphabet, but he still struggles to find work as a full time educator. Instead, Abu Bakr has been a teacher to teachers and a master speaker, sharing his knowledge of genetics and Black history, and has been a sort after professional over the past year, but government, corporate companies and more. Here in conversation with the BOMB he shares his frustrations within the education system as a profession and as practice.
