IDC’s Smart City Asia Pacific Awards (SCAPA) is back for 2017. SCAPA recognizes the top smart city initiatives in Asia Pacific region across 14 functional smart city strategic domains. Projects are shortlisted from Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, India, Thailand and China.

SCAPA is the brainchild of Gerald Wang, Head of IDC’s Government and Education insights in Asia Pacific based in Singapore. He gives us a firsthand introduction to the awards and how the framework identifies projects and how it hands the power to the citizens to vote for their favorite.

Gerald also shares his perspective on the challenges IT adoption faces in the public sector and educational institutes. From educating and helping non-IT decision makers take the right steps, to drilling security issues and IT investments and governance’s best practices.
