On Jan. 22, 1897, Edward Shue had approached a neighbor asking if their son, Anderson Jones, can help his wife with some chores, claiming she wasn't feeling good when he had left the house. When little Andy Jones arrived at the Shue home however, he found the lifeless body of Elva Shue strewn along the foot of their staircase. When the coroner arrived at the scene, the death was attributed to complications due to pregnancy. Devastated, Mary Jane Heaster, mother of Elva, started to pray hoping she'd see her daughter again, when suddenly her prayers were answered, setting in motion the tale of the Greenbrier Ghost.
