Welcome to this week's episode of "Mindful Living with Amy Novotny". In this episode, we'll be talking about how to calm down our nervous system and get out of the fight or flight response.
Have you ever experienced that feeling of being stuck in a state of heightened anxiety, where everything seems like a threat and you feel constantly on edge? Well, that's what we call the fight or flight response, and it's something that our bodies have evolved to do in response to stressors.
But sometimes, our bodies can get stuck in this state, even when there's no real threat present. And that's when we start to experience symptoms like anxiety, panic attacks, and even physical health problems.
So, how can we get out of the fight or flight response and calm down our nervous system?
Firstly, it's important to recognize when you're experiencing this response. Some signs may include feeling tense, heart racing, or sweating profusely. Once you've identified this, it's time to start practicing some simple techniques that can help calm you down.
One technique that works really well for many people is deep breathing. Simply take a deep breath in, hold it for a few seconds, and then slowly release it. You can repeat this a few times until you feel calmer.
Another technique is to use mindfulness to become aware of your thoughts and emotions. Often, just acknowledging what's going on in your mind can help to reduce the intensity of your fight or flight response.
Additionally, taking time to do relaxing activities such as taking a walk in nature, reading a book, or taking a bath can also help you relax.
Remember, it's important to take care of your body and mind by practicing self-care and getting the rest you need. This will not only help you feel better, but also help to keep your nervous system calm and in balance.
