Malaysian-born Muslim Ani Zonneveld was radicalized by September 11, but she wasn’t radicalized in the way we traditionally think. She was appalled by how her religion was represented by extremists, and she decided to do something about it. Having tried to work with other groups, she finally founded Muslims for Progressive Values in 2007, and amazingly her work has spread throughout the US and internationally. Though she doesn’t use these terms, her organization is calling for what amounts to an Inner Revolution in Islam, advocating for equality, women’s and LGBT rights, freedom of expression, and freedom of and from religion or belief. Who is Ani? How did she come to step so far outside tradition? Why does she see her Islam as the true Islam? How have others reacted to her message? How did her organization grow internationally? Learn about an Islam based on Oneness, Accountability and Mutual Support. Tune into this amazing show. Ani’s voice deserves to be heard and spread.
