The InterPride podcast series, InterPod, where the world comes together for the LGBTQIA+ community, is proud to launch our 23rd episode, Turkey: Pride Denied — Freedom of Assembly, Speech, and Expression.

The LGBTQIA+ community has come a long way in the fight for acceptance. However, our voices matter and will be heard. Many LGBTQIA+ community members have fought for decades for the right to be seen and heard.

About Episode 23

According to Human Rights Watch, an unprecedented number of young people were arrested and detained by Turkish police at this year’s Pride festivities.

It was cited as a security risk and the need to maintain public order by local authorities who had banned the march. Protests and Pride events were held throughout the country, including Istanbul’s 30th annual celebration.

We’re joined by Ilgin & Ozan, two young activists and students from QueerAnka, to talk about what’s happening in Turkey.

Listen in as we hear from Ilgin & Ozan!
