Today my co-host, Jessica Liedke, and I are talking about concussions from a patient’s point of view.
Our patient, Amy, suffered a head injury and brain bleed from a horrible fall down a flight of stairs. In our experience, it can take a long time for patients to get the care they need after a concussion, but because Amy’s doctor acted quickly, her recovery was short compared to similar cases.
We hope this episode answers any questions you might have about the vision impact of concussions and how to get the help you need, including vision therapy. Most people don’t think of their eyes as muscles, however, just like anything else, you need to exercise them to get them strong again!
In this episode you’ll hear about:

  • The importance of mindfulness and a positive mindset in vision recovery
  • How a concussion can cause Oculomotor Dysfunction, or eye tracking issues (Amy had difficulty reading) We explain why these issues can be hard to catch
  • The exhaustion a concussion can cause, and the commitment recovery requires from your support system (for example, Amy needed rides to all her appointments)
  • The two kinds of visual processing streams, and the impact on normal functioning when a concussion causes them to not communicate with each other
  • Unexpected post vision therapy improvements for Amy, including better depth perception and hand-eye coordination
  • Our digital courses, which we developed to help people get better at home, including 4D ReBuilt and 4D Built for Life
