Today we're back with another Money Moments episode, where we chat to real Kiwis about money.
Today on the podcast, we are joined by Jamie Jermain, Co-Founder & CEO at SquareOne, NZ’s first account and card built for the next generation.
Jamie has worked in the payment space for over 20 years, including at the likes of Visa, Mastercard, Lloyds Bank and The Warehouse Group.

Originally from London, he moved to New Zealand in 2010 and now lives in Auckland with his wife and 3 kids, who were the inspiration to build and launch SquareOne.

In this episode, Jamie shares about:

  • Why money was a taboo topic for him growing up
  • Using credit cards to fund a mortgage
  • How working in finance has shaped his approach to money (or didn't!)
  • How he tackled moving countries, financially
  • The challenges, triumphs and learnings of founding and growing a company
  • His experience funding a start-up - from bootstrapping to raising capital initially, to raising additional funds
  • Key advice given in the early stages of SquareOne - hiring, governance, ESOP allocations and more
  • How he has needed to grow as a leader by starting a company
