In the third episode the show delves into the value of time discipline. Sounds a mite dull? Well you’re wrong. You could call it a ‘secret to being creative’ but that would be ‘clickbait’ and that makes me grit my teeth and wish to pour warm marmalade up the writer’s nose (yes, they would have to be held upside down first).

Creativity and being creative shouldn’t be taken too seriously. Did you know that 94% of comedians are 87% cleverer than fish? Yes. A lot of stuff doesn’t make sense online but Jelly Trumpet does. Why? Years of experience and a willingness to be silly every moment and for every breath on this planet.

Stuff We’ll Hear in this Episode:

  • How the literal world means you could be drinking a Scotch Egg
  • Nigel, the drummer performs his first solo
  • We meet Henk van Mann, Professor of Liquid Creativity
  • We talk Jungian archetypes, well a little bit

And I share stuff. In this episode I experience darkness and how to avoid the pits, wells, and puddles of despair that comes from creative intent.

You Are Your Own Medicine
‘You are Your Own Medicine’ is all about keeping a journal. The journal becomes your coach.

We’re all about the use of your time for the best in this episode. If you write and you find it difficult to start then pay attention to ‘setting a time to write’. This is hardcore. I suspect not many will be able to do it. But from my experience it works if you are persistent. I am also sure it works for any creative discipline. You just have to put in the graft.

In short, in this episode:

02:18 You Are Your Own Medicine
05:03 Challenge at Home, preparation & incubation plus ‘the compost heap’
07:46 Creative Hero Time, Eddie Izzard and the art of reincorporation
10:17 Guest Spot, with Jess King, actor & teacher

Guest Spot: Jess King, actor

11:35 Earliest creative memory
13:38 What influences you?
15:12 Documenting every audition and job
18:24 The Scowling Dusk
19:56 Which three things wouldn’t you take to a desert island?

Plus:

23:10 Challenge Jim, 10 ideas for plays featuring mice
24:30 Tot Topic, writing deadlines and self care
26:43 List of The Week, Jungian character types
28:29 Further Thinking Spot, Bored Panda

29:26 Music from ‘We Paint Houses’, ‘Don’t Take Me Home’

31:50 Ends
Guest Spot – Jess King, actor

We talk to the talented Jess King. I’ve had the joy of performing on stage with Jess, she saved my bacon every night. Jess is also a teacher, singer and dancer, plus working in the movies. We have a insightful conversation about creativity for an actor.
