Send us a text In this episode, idols and idolatry part 2 We review what an idol is and what is the most common form of idolatry practiced today. What is the difference between a “confessor” of Jesus and a follower of Jesus? Does Jesus forbid us from having possessions or money? Why did Jesus require the young wealthy ruler to give away all his wealth and then come and follow him? What is the “one thing” keeping you from becoming a follower of Jesus? Light exposes what is in the dark, truth from God’s word and the guidance of the Holy Spirit reveals the hidden things within our hearts. God brings these things to us so we can “recognize” them and receive freedom from the lies and deceptions of the devil. To “confess” means to acknowledge what you have done wrong as sin to God, ask for forgiveness and then “repent” which means to “forsake and turn away from it”. When we do this, what does proverbs 28:13 promises us if we follow these steps? To “renounce” means to verbally declare that you are no longer in agreement with something. After one “renounces” it is usually followed by making a clean break from the offensive practices that they were associated with. What did the new believers in Acts 19:18-20 make a clean break from? How did they demonstrate that they no longer wanted anything to do with those previous things of their past? Before we can “resist” the devil (stand against or oppose him) what must we do first according to James 4:7 How did Jesus deal with demon spirits? What does the word “rebuke” mean? According to Mark 16:15-17 do those who are born again believers (followers of Jesus) have the authority to rebuke and cast out devils? What were the disciples of Jesus excited about in Luke 10:17-20? Did Jesus disagree with what they said about how the demons were subject to them? We are to learn not to make the same mistakes that others made. Reason 2. Is we are to follow the examples of those things that they did that were worthy of imitating. So that we can be encouraged and experience success in our lives by doing the right things that they did. Who was and is our ultimate example we are to follow? Does the bible teach us to pray to Mary and the saints? What does the bible call the practice of praying to the dead, or invoking the spirit of one who has died? What does the bible say about practicing necromancy? Not only does God condemn these wicked practices, but what danger do we open ourselves up to when we do these things? We must remember that the devil and all his demons are seeking to steal, kill, and destroy our lives and we would be wise to remember this. Our only safeguard is the word of God, the bible. God gave it to us for many reasons, and 1 main reason is that we may come into a relationship with him and be able to know what truth is and what is a lie. When Mary prayed and gave thanks to God what did she call God? Why did she call God by this title if she was sinless? Who was the only one without sin? Should Mary still be considered a virgin?
