Our guest for this episode is Shaloni Naik - a level 3 classroom teacher at Ashdale Secondary College.

Now, what's interesting about this interview is that Shaloni is a very straight talker, and most of my guests are, so we get straight to the point and you don't have to put up with much fluff throughout, she also speaks very well which makes for entertaining listening.

Shaloni is a finalist for Secondary School Teacher of the Year, her school has been nominated for an array of awards, including Secondary School of the Year. But aside from the accolades, it is her unique background, philosophy and culture developed by this school that makes this interview very valuable.

Before becoming an educator, Shaloni comes from a background of multi media and graphic design, 3D arts, animation, etc and is an Adobe education leader where she actually travels the world training others on the effective use of their products in the classroom. And as they say, "value lies outside of the majority", this combination, and looking at it from these two unique angles, as Shaloni has is definitely outside of the majority.

Shaloni's title is Specialist Technology Teacher, so naturally we talk about software, hardware, activities that technology can be used to improve outcomes, we go quite specific on the "how to", the other "how to" is how her school has created this great bond, collaborative and cohesive environment where staff are friends, how other schools can learn from it incorporating a great method of inter-staff feedback, how her teaching philosophy which, many never even think of let alone create, actually minimises and can even eliminate behavioural problems. She breaks it down, goes into details of what it is, projects, activities and learning programs and may more interesting topics. She even took me around for a walk after we finished and showed me exactly the tools that they use in the lab and this was well after standard working hours. With someone with this level of passion you're bound to get some value from it.
