"Opera is like one of the transporting art forms... transporting you to these hidden secrets places like in yourself that are otherwise inaccessible." ~David Hanlon, composer

Andrea takes a deep dive into the creative process behind creating a new opera with composer David Hanlon and librettist Stephanie Fleischmann. Fresh from the New York libretto reading for their Opera for All Voices commission, The Pigeon Keeper, they were ready to talk fables, families, and refugees.

A libretto reading is a rare opportunity early in the process of a new work to focus in on the story being told and see how it, according to Stephanie, "breathes and moves" in order to provide the structure of the music. Their hope is to create an opera that is truly transporting for a contemporary audience, that will still resonate 50+ years from now.

The Pigeon Keeper is slated to premiere in Spring of 2021.
