368. Is calm even possible with toddlers? (Nervous system regulation)
Manage episode 422864570 series 3199947
Garrett joins us for a solocast on nervous system regulation and her current thesis that "calm" is not fully accessible during the newborn + toddler era. It's more about bobbing and weaving between the levels of consciousness-- for instance, fight or flight is needed, at times, if your little one is injured; reactive consciousness is needed when you hear them scream across the park; restful awareness can be cut short when they scream for no reason (LOL). This episode dives into the navigation between the levels of consciousness and sheds light on how as moms, we can give ourselves permission to *not* be calm, but do things to access it intermittently... and that is a practice and a skill!
