‘It's about meeting yourself and asking have I acted in the way I would have liked to have acted and can I do better tomorrow?

How many times have you achieved something but not felt comfortable with it?

Rob has taken his inspiration for this episode from the book by Ryan Holiday ‘ The Ego is the Enemy' and focuses on the chapter ‘The Eternal Student'

Rob has experienced a stage in his life where he wanted to be recognised and looked for recognition, it seemed to be important but as life has gone on those things have faded away and become less important replaced by the peace that can be found in just being yourself.

This is a great episode that will help anyone to look within and understand better how understanding yourself is the most important thing anyone can do as an eternal student.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • The external pressures are less important and it's about meeting yourself and asking have I acted in the way I would have liked to have acted and can I do better tomorrow?
  • The important thing is what is real and the ritualistic aspect of life
  • No matter how great the world makes you, no matter how great you are you must listen to the voice within that tells you where you really are
  • Keep your ears and eyes open to learning all the time
  • The minute you think you think you have all the knowledge; the minute you think you know it all is the minute your downfall begins.
  • The minute you think you know it all is when you stop taking information in, you stop growing and the process begins to reverse itself.
  • Have the humility to be able to analyse yourself, to take a look and then take the step further and negative self-assess - looking at what you are not so good at, do this recognising the world might think you are in a particular place but only you know deep down where you are.
  • You are prepared to take the steps whatever they are every day to improve and move forward, you have to be prepared to follow the process.
  • Be an eternal student, on the way ignoring the noise.
  • Be grateful for where you are and the opportunities to learn
  • Be patient and allow the processes to occur and be happy you are doing what makes you happy every day
  • Whether or not you can see the results you are on the plateau and recognise that's really what's important.

BEST MOMENTS

‘He had all this success early on for a short period of time but it wasn't sustained'

‘As lifelong learners, we can have a ‘plus' in our lives – someone in our lives who is a master at what we want to be, who we should aim to use as our mentor and coach'

‘There is a danger and a downside to having success early on in your career'
