Welcome to The Matus Law Group's new Pop Culture & Law Podcast. Hosted by Christine Matus and Kristine Carranceja-Gurski. In the second episode, Christine and Kristine discuss the Good, the Bad and the Ugly about setting up a comprehensive Estate Plan and in contrast, failing to do so. To support this theme, they will discuss the 2011 Oscar-winning movie The Descendants, starring George Clooney as a trustee of a very wealthy Hawaiian estate who has to deal with family drama, fighting off greedy family members, and dealing with his wife's terminal illness. On the "ugly" side, they talk about Tony Hiesh's estate, the former CEO of the million-dollar shoe retailer company Zappo's who unexpectedly passed away last year. Tony, instead of working with a lawyer on his estate planning documents like his will, decided to write it all down on POST-IT NOTES! All scattered around his mansion and leaving his family with the burden of sorting out which notes were legally binding, which weren't and how to protect Tony's life worth.
