After Jesus was born, some wise men from the east came to Jerusalem. [2] They asked people, "Where is the child who has been born to be the king of the Jews? We saw the star that shows he was born. We saw it rise in the sky in the east and have come to worship him." [3] When King Herod heard about this, it upset him as well as everyone else in Jerusalem. 1. 2 very different responses to the savior Matthew 2:4-9 ERV [4] Herod called a meeting of all the leading Jewish priests and teachers of the law. He asked them where the Messiah would be born. [5] They answered, "In the town of Bethlehem in Judea, just as the prophet wrote: [6] 'Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, you are important among the rulers of Judah. Yes, a ruler will come from you, and that ruler will lead Israel, my people.'" [7] Then Herod had a private meeting with the wise men from the east. He learned from them the exact time they first saw the star. [8] Then he sent them to Bethlehem. He said, "Go and look carefully for the child. When you find him, come tell me. Then I can go worship him too." [9] After the wise men heard the king, they left. They saw the same star they had seen in the east, and they followed it. 2. The king’s fear made him control everything, while the wise men came ready to give Matthew 2:9-12 ERV The star went before them until it stopped above the place where the child was. [10] They were very happy and excited to see the star. [11] The wise men came to the house where the child was with his mother Mary. They bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened the boxes of gifts they had brought for him. They gave him treasures of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. [12] But God warned the wise men in a dream not to go back to Herod. So they went home to their own country a different way. 3. Ultimately fear robs Herod from meeting the savior but the wise men encounter Jesus face to face Isaiah 9:6 ERV This will happen when the special child is born. God will give us a son who will be responsible for leading the people. His name will be "Wonderful Counselor, Powerful God, Father Who Lives Forever, Prince of Peace." Hebrews 11:6 ERV Without faith no one can please God. Whoever comes to God must believe that he is real and that he rewards those who sincerely try to find him. 恐れに満ちた王と探し求める賢者達 マタイ 2:1-3（ALIVE訳） ヘロデ大王がユダヤ地方を統治していた時代、ベツレヘム町にその方は生まれた。—イエス—だ。すると、東の地から神殿の都エルサレムへ、賢者たちが集まってきた。どこだ・・・ユダヤ人の王になるべく生まれおちた子はどこだ・・・王の誕生を知らせる星は上がった・・・我々はそのお方を拝みに来た・・・さあどこだ・・・この知らせは、ヘロデ大王をはじめ、神殿の都エルサレム中を動揺させた——【新たな王には、反乱と戦争がつきものだからだ】 1．救い主に対して2つの全く違う反応 Matthew 2:4-9（ALIVE訳） ヘロデ大王は、宗教指導者全員を緊急招集した。「この王はどこで生まれると預言されているのかね？」「ユダヤ地方ベツレヘム町でございます。預言者はこうつづっております。ユダヤのベツレヘムよ 。たとえ小さくとも、おまえはユダヤの権力者に勝る重要な町だ。 そう、おまえから統治者が誕生する。彼はわたしの民、イスラエルを治める」——【聖書:ミカ書5:2より引用】これで場所が分かったヘロデ大王は、日付を聞き出すために賢者たちと密会を開いた。こうして、賢者が星を初めて目にした正確な時期を割り出せたヘロデ大王。「その子をよくよく探し、見つけたら知らせてくれ！余もその子を拝みたいのだ！」・・・こう言って賢者の背中を見送ったヘロデ大王は、不気味な笑みを浮かべた。こうしてヘロデ大王のもとを後にした賢者たち。すると！ピッカーン！「あれはあの時の・・・！」最初に見たあの星がまた姿を現したのだ！ 2．王は恐れから全てをコントロールしたのに対し、賢者たちは与える為に来た。 Matthew 2:9-12 （ALIVE訳） その星に導かれるままに進んでいると、その子がいる場所を指して星が止まったではないか！きたぁぁぁぁぁぁ！！！星が止まったのを見た賢者は、興奮のあまり身震いし、喜びの声をあげた。そして牧舎の中に入った—母マリヤといえたその子を前にした瞬間、賢者たちは全員土下座して讃えた！パカッ そして、献上のための宝箱を開く。金、乳香、没薬といった王家へ献上する財宝が詰まっているではないか。その後—ヘロデのもとへ戻るでない——ハッ！夢を通して神にこう忠告された彼らは、それぞれの国へ、それぞれの道のりで帰ったのだった。 3．結局、ハロルド王は恐れによって救い主に出会うチャンスを逃したが、賢者達は直接イエスに出会った。 イザヤ書 9:6 (JCB) 「一人の男の子が私たちのために生まれます。 その肩にすべての主権が与えられ、 その子は、「すばらしい助言者」「全能の神」 「永遠の父」「平和の君」と呼ばれます。」 へブル 11:6（ALIVE訳） 信仰なしに神を喜ばすことは出来ない。神のもとへ行きたければ、神の存在を信じ、熱心に神を求めるなら必ず報われることを信じなければならない。
