With talented business gurus like Bill Gates, entertainers like Jerry Seinfeld and Robin Williams, and even iconic geniuses like Albert Einstein all recognized as being on the autism spectrum and bringing high-profile attention to the disorder, Denver-based business consultant Tim Goldstein says the time is now for company leaders to implement steps to help employees understand the hyper-focused brilliant jerks who work with them on a daily basis and boost productivity, innovation and ROI in the process.
Tim, 58, was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome only a few years ago at age 54 but the diagnosis changed his life both personally and professionally. After decades wearing many hats in the bicycle business and metalsmith supply industry and spending years as an independent IT consultant, Tim now calls himself a Neurodiverse Communications Specialist probably the only one in the world doing specifically what he does.
Engagements range from initial discovery of the company’s needs around neurodiversity and autistic workers through design and implementation of a strategy to recruit and support new and existing neurodiverse workers. Using his Cloud Neurodiversity idea, Tim helps the business world understand the Spock-like logical approach of the technical world. His first book, Geeks Guide to Interviews: 15 Critical Items for the Technical Type, is also available to those looking to better understand autism in the workplace. His teaching at Cornell University brought a unique perspective to their first course in Neurodiversity.
