Ben is a fan of electric vehicle, but not fanatic, an electrical engineer but not an EV engineer, a Tesla owner (X then 3) but not fossil.
Electricity is everywhere we go, gasoline is only where we take it.

  • Choose your charging energy source consciously.
  • Be aware your mass is 100kg, and an EV is over 1000kg.
    • This is fundamentally inefficient.
  • Keep an eye on Hydrogen as an option, especially for fleet vehicles.
  • Be sure your solar installation can work when the grid is down.
    • That is get a battery, and perhaps some DC coupled panels.
    • Look into “vehicle to grid” capable cars.
  • Be realistic about the benefits of EVs, see through marketing
  • Displacing other forms of travel.
    • Think driving instead of flying.
  • How to be self-sovereign in transport.
    • AC vs DC coupling.
    • Going off in a power cut vs not.
  • Grid impact?
    • Texas has its own grid, cannot accept power from other states.
  • Recycling of batteries.
    • Tesla currently constrained by the lack of old batteries.
    • They won’t go into landfill because they are so valuable.
