John Pontacolone, Director of Finance for the City of New York, had just stepped out of the subway in time to see the North Towers hit by a screaming commercial airplane on September 11, 2001. It would take him nearly 10 hours to make it home to his wife Lillian and son. And it's a day they'll never forget.
