Maddy Warner is 22-years-old and works as a barista at Crema - a coffee shop and soda bar in Midvale, UT while going to massage therapy school. In this conversation, she holds nothing back as she talks about the pressures her generation are facing as well as her personal challenges of growing up and figuring it all out.

  • I always have a hard time taking that next step – getting a job…I’ve really put off growing up, but it’s started getting to be an issue of me not progressing.
  • I have a lot of fear about growing up and just moving forward from where I’ve been emotionally.
  • I think this generation is just having a hard time finding what they want and it's hard being the first generation to grow up with social media.
  • I see people with amazing lives [on social media] and it’s basically just a highlight reel.
  • A lot of confusion of being lost and a lot of turmoil that you don’t see on my social media. It’s kind of a lonely thing to go through.
  • There’s almost too many options and I know that sounds bad but at the same time, it’s like… I don’t know what to choose cause I don’t even really know who I am.
  • My generation is kind of struggling right now.
  • Social media affects more than what we think.
  • We’re all just mini Britney Spearses.
  • I find a lot of peace in just being able to…move my body.
  • Taking an hour out of your day to listen to your body and connect with it – I think that’s very important.
  • Taking social media fasts…has been helpful.
  • If you can, take a break from social media and even life.
  • My parents have always made a point of saying, “I’m proud of you because, you might be struggling right now but, you’re holding your own and you’re figuring it out.”
  • Those screw-ups are so important…I’ve learned more from those than anything else.
  • You can’t ignore when you mess up cause you’re never going to learn from it.
  • My whole family was there even though I spent a year pushing them away…[in spite of] being a huge bitch to them.
  • You can’t help but laugh.
  • Everyone knows what’s best for them, deep down. I used to not believe that and now I absolutely trust my gut feeling.
  • I’m probably the smartest person I know when it comes to my life.
