Buenos dias! That’s what our guest today would have greeted me with if he had ended up a Spanish teacher. Instead, he greeted me with a dram of Irish Whiskey and I am not complaining.

I’m Susan Schwartz, your drinking companion, and this is Lush Life Podcast, every week we are inspired to live life one cocktail at a time by the best in the industry.

Today Geoff Speiran, Global Whiskey Ambassador at The Dublin Liberties Distillery joins me in an area of Dublin, previously known as Hell, which feels right with Friday the 13th around the corner. I was there not only to hear his story but the phoenix-like return of Irish Whiskey.

Our cocktail of the week is the Irish Coffee.

Ingredients:

  • 50ml Dubliner Irish Whiskey
  • 15ml Amaro Di Montenegro
  • 10ml Brown Demerara sugar syrup
  • 120ml fresh espresso coffee
  • Top with fresh cream and freshly grated nutmeg

Method:

Swirl the glass with hot water until warm, then pour it out. Add whiskey, sugar syrup & amaro and stir. Add the hot coffee and stir. Pour the cream delicately over the back of a teaspoon until you have a thick consistent layer. Grate some fresh nutmeg over the top for the perfect Irish coffee!

You can find this recipe, more Whiskey recipes and all the cocktails of the week at ALushLifeManual.com, where you’ll also find all the ingredients in our shop.
