These are two of the many stats that sum up the dire start to the 2023/24 campaign for Erik ten Hag’s team and once again we are left asking, is this a fair reflection of the team? And where the answer in previous games might have been no, perhaps this time, the answer is yes.

Brighton & Hove Albion rode out the early dominance of United and then raced away after half-time. Young Hannibal scored a fantastic long-range goal to reduce the deficit, but that was about it for United’s response.
