Feds putting up $75M for semiconductor chips plant in Georgia

The Biden administration announced a $75 million commitment to a semiconductor component manufacturing plant in Covington, Georgia. This project, led by Absolics, a subsidiary of South Korea's SK Group, aims to create over 1,200 jobs in manufacturing and construction.

The funding, sourced from the CHIPS and Science Act passed by Congress, is a key part of President Biden’s initiative to rejuvenate American manufacturing.

U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff highlighted the importance of developing a domestic semiconductor industry to reduce reliance on China, emphasizing its significance for U.S. national security. "Georgia should lead the nation and America should lead the world in advanced semiconductor manufacturing," he stated.

The 120,000-square-foot facility in Covington will produce glass substrates, improving the performance of advanced chips by enabling more compact and efficient connections, thereby enhancing computing speed and energy efficiency.
