Join us as we dive deep into what structural, musical, and editorial highlights enabled this film to be one of the best documentaries in recent memory. We begin with a discussion on how documentaries have become so profitable at the spring and summer box office this year. Then we bio Fred Rogers and give you a ton of information on his phenomenal children’s program on PBS, Mister Rogers Neighborhood. We Mikes share our different personal connections to the show before our non-spoiler review of the production values, script, music, and editing. And of course, spoiler warning music gets you dancing after that. Our spoiler review is mostly full of best scenes, but we do have a few worst elements that we break down & discuss. Even still, those few lulls immediately redeem themselves moments later, and the triumph continues. It’s definitely a gush fest here, but hopefully, we delve deeper into the why’s and how’s. We’re in awe of the structural decisions of this film, and we hope it shows. Do look forward to more OSPs on the Best Documentary Feature contenders. We’re planning reviews of RBG and Three Identical Strangers in the coming weeks. Until then, please consult our other thirteen profiles of 2018 award season contenders in this series. We also have reviews of the MCU, Mission Impossible films, The Conjuring Universe, and an array of Best Original Song halfisodes, news hot take pods, and a whole bunch more Oscar coverage with our 4 part look at the trailers to preview your push to the red carpet.
