I love hearing stories about women who start pursuing a hobby at an “older” age and compete with other women who have been participating in the same hobby since they were children. These stories are such inspirations to me and to so many. They can really help motivate others to want to do the same in a hobby they may want to pursue themselves. My guest on today’s episode decided she wanted to pursue boxing as a fun new hobby. When she first joined a gym, her initial goal was to try something new, but after going to her first match as an attendee, she realized she needed to be out there on the mat herself. And guess what? She was already 29! Did that stop her? Not at all. I can’t wait for you to hear my conversation with Jess Lawson and how she became an amateur boxer at the age of 29.

If you’ve asked the questions:

“Am I too old to start boxing?”

“Is it too late to start a new hobby?”

“Can I compete in a sport at an older age?”

“Is it too late?”

THIS is the episode for you!

Questions we discussed:

-What was it that intrigued you about boxing gyms compared to your traditional gyms?

-What is unique about 1 of only 2 female owned boxing gyms in the United States?

-You start boxing, then you watch one of the instructors compete. What happened when you were at the boxing match that created a curiosity in you to start competing yourself?

-Tell me about your first official boxing match. What were your emotions, how was your confidence in your ability to compete? What was going through your mind?

-What motivates you to push forward as someone who started this sport at an “older age?”

-What do you have to do to keep up or to tell yourself that you are qualified enough to compete? -What is it like on the hard days when you may feel less qualified?

-If you could encourage 1 woman who feels blocked or limited to pursue a dream or goal based on her age or life circumstance, what would you tell her?
