I was introduced to my guest on today’s show several years ago at a friend’s bachelorette party. The most beautiful outdoor picnic was created for a group of 15 or so women honoring my friend. Rae Johnson, the founder and owner of Not Ur Average Picnic, was the one who created a beautiful masterpiece that transformed the backyard and made the picnic glamorous for my friend. I’ve been following along on her journey (from afar), and have been in awe of the beautiful work she does. I knew she started this business at a “young” age and I wanted to hear all about how she got started and what her business looks like today.
In our conversation, Rae shares her journey of starting and growing her business. She talks about her background in finance and teaching, and how she discovered her passion for creating beautiful picnics. Rae discusses the challenges she faced, including competition and the seasonal nature of the business, and how she pivoted to offer a wider range of event planning services. She emphasizes the importance of staying in your own lane and not comparing yourself to others.
