Jenn and Joe continue their coverage of Gein-inspired films with one of horror’s most influential texts: Alfred Hitchcock’s modern masterpiece, Psycho.

Premiering just over two years after news of Ed Gein’s horrendous crimes, Hitchcock based his stunning film on Robert Bloch’s 1959 novel which puts a handsome face on the notorious Butcher of Plainfield. But what elements of this shocking true story make it into the film and what gets left on the cutting room floor?

Plus: how does Psycho contribute to our collective misunderstanding of schizophrenia and how does the story repackage Gein’s complicated relationship with his mother Augusta?
