In today's music business, with so many opportunities for music licensing, it's more important than ever that you own the copyright on your music. This is where the big money in the music industry is made.

If you own the copyrights to music other people have written, you can make even more money.

While most of my work within the music business has been marketing related, my company actually started as a music publishing business. In this episode, I talk about how that happened and explain the opportunity you have to start your own "non-traditional" music publishing company and make money with it.

If you're interested in growing your music business, increasing your income, and making the most of your music marketing skills, music publishing may be the opportunity you are looking for. This episode of the Music Marketing [dot] com Podcast talks about your options for making money in this exciting and lucrative side of the music business.

In addition to music publishing, we also talk about NAMM Summer Session 2013, which took place July 11-13 in Nashville, TN.

This episode was inspired by a listener email with a question about how to start (and run) an music publishing company. If you have a music business question or something you'd like us to cover on a future episode, contact me via Twitter.
