We weren’t really sure what to expect from the Barbie movie. We had both heard mixed reviews, both had different thoughts about what might happen based on the trailers… But one thing was for sure: we wanted to go into the movie with an open mind.

In this episode we’ll share our own personal experiences with the Barbie movie, including our thoughts on the many themes, references, and the ending monologue on being a woman.

Points Discussed in this Episode

  • Our rating of the movie overall on a scale of 1 - 10
  • The opening scene: How this sets the movie up
  • The drastic cuts throughout the movie between Barbie Land and the real world
  • Being looked at, “the stare”, being on display… What’s the significance of this?
  • The role reversal that Barbie and Ken experience
  • How motherhood and the female role is portrayed in Barbie Land versus the real world
  • Barbie’s struggle with who she is / who she’s “supposed to be”
  • Is it “impossible” to be a woman?
