This one came to me a bit randomly, but I'm happy with how it turned out. Picking around on the uke brought me the melody, and playing with words and sounds brought me some of the lines, and then I was able to build it out from there. This song is both not based on direct experience and also based on all of my experiences, kind of. One-take. Vocal is a little wild, but I'm not mad at it and I liked the uke take (for the most part) too much. And 50 songs in 90 days???? Are we nuts??? Not sure how fussy any of my mixes/productions we'll be but...we'll see. I couldn’t tell you when I Needed you the most I said I needed to get some air I came back and you weren’t there And when I came back home Ready to fold I noticed holes All around the house Where things you thought were only yours Had been And as you gathered them up Did you even think About the things that you could carry Down the road That you were hellbent on takin’? And as you left behind All the things That you didn’t think you’d need Did you ever think “Aw shit” As you were walkin’ out the door? I remember tangled sheets And meet and greets, spoiled meats And liars and cheats We were all of these And I remember conversation Record-playing, celebrating Laughing and saying: “This is all I need” And as you gathered them up Did you even think About the things that you could carry? All the memories Woulda busted yer suitcase wide open So when you walked away Did you leave a trail of metaphorical kerosene? Well if you were the match Honey I was always the flame And you just walked away I don’t know what story you tell Your new girls about me And I don’t know what story You tell yourself But I can look it all in the face And measure all we had The good and the bad At least I tell myself I can And as you walked away I felt a weight Lifted up from off of me The weight of love The weight of need Of history And as I looked around At all the things That you didn’t think you’d need I felt sorry For the years I’d take from you And you’d taken from me
