In 2013, the Mississippi State Board of Education hired Dr. Carey Wright to be Mississippi’s Superintendent of Education.

After the longest tenure as chief educator in modern Mississippi history, Dr. Wright joins host Marshall Ramsey to talk about the department's accomplishments of which she’s most proud, the difficulty of leading Mississippi's public school leaders and educators through multiple phases of a pandemic, how many people misinterpret what the state superintendent does and is supposed to be doing, methodically pulling Mississippi's schools out of decades of demoralizing education rankings, where she plans to go from here, and much more.

Marshall Ramsey, a nationally recognized editorial cartoonist, shares his cartoons and travels the state as Mississippi Today’s Editor-At-Large. He’s also host of a "Now You're Talking" on MPB Think Radio and "Conversations" on MPB TV, and is the author of several books. Marshall is a graduate of the University of Tennessee and a 2019 recipient of the University of Tennessee Alumni Professional Achievement Award.
