In this episode, Adrianne welcomes returning guest, community mental health nurse Renee DuShane. You may remember her from the episode Fired From My First Nursing Job. Well, Renee is back to share more about how she bounces back - this time as a community-based health professional in the middle of a pandemic.
They discuss quite a bit about community mental health services as a broad system as well as how it works on an individual level. The cover lots of other things on Renee’ss mind like:
How the pandemic has affected her job and how she has adapted
The negative effects of social distancing and isolation on the community she serves.
Common misconceptions about the residential-based mental healthcare model.
How mental health issues affect how people perceive and cope with illness and restrictions.
The ways they are preparing for the coming cold weather and potential illness.
The ways the pandemic has improved our collective tech skills.
Thank you to Renee for giving us the inside scoop on the current state of community mental health care in her area of Massachusetts and being such a big supporter of Nursing Uncensored.
