This week we talk about dealing with our kids challenging behavior, with some stories about what DOESN'T work and maybe even some good tips on what we have found to be helpful and effective in guiding our kids behavior and hearts back on track.

NOTES:

  • This Weeks Whiskey: Hudson Baby Bourbon Whiskey, NY
  • How do we bring our kids into compliance... because that is our goal as parents, to make our kids well-majored, compliant tiny humans (some sarcasm used).
  • It's critical for us as parents to understand WHY our kids are exhibiting "challenging behavior".
  • How do we define "challenging behavior" - defiance, not listening, annoying, or just inconvenient to us.
  • No Drama Discipline book
  • Begin with empathy & understanding your kids frustrations, once they calm down you can address the issues and consequences but trying to engage and discipline while your kid is in a heightened emotional state will only lead to further escalation of the situation.
  • It's good to have a "no flinch" policy as parents, so we can relate to our kids in a way that they can trust coming to us with their questions and doubts.
  • The goal of discipline is correction and re-directing their behavior and hearts towards wisdom and God.
