If you’ve been taught to believe that emotional eating is something to feel shameful about, you’re not alone. But the truth is: food is emotional! It can soothe, evoke memories, create connections, and even transport us to another time in our lives.

You can eat for all sorts of reasons besides physical hunger: to console, to comfort, to cheer, to dull feelings, to distract. And that’s okay, as long as you feel good afterward.

But sometimes food isn’t what you’re really hungry for, and eating it doesn’t make you feel any better. That’s when you want to have non-food coping mechanisms.

Kathrine Kofoed, an evidence-based nutritionist and ACE-certified health coach, struggled with emotional eating for years and beat herself up along the way. When she learned how to get honest with herself and ask the right questions, she found other means to support her when food wasn’t the answer.

Now, after repairing her own relationship with food, Kathrine’s on a mission to help as many people as possible approach their habits with both mindfulness and compassion to get to the root cause of their emotional eating.
