Gilad's mother, Dr. Laura F. Jacobs, MD, PhD, is the founder of Normatec Industries, a company that specializes in compression and recovery technology. Jacobs, a physician bioengineer, started the company in 2004 with the goal of helping people improve their lives by increasing blood flow and circulation.
She originally created Normatec to help breast cancer patients recover from lymphedema, a type of swelling, but the technology quickly became popular with athletes and is now used in many professional sports.

Jacobs' son, Gilad Jacobs, has since taken over the company and is now the Chief Innovation Officer at Hyperice, which recently acquired Normatec. Gilad has customized his mother's work to benefit athletes, and Normatec compression boots are now used by professional teams, college and Olympic programs, and amateur athletes around the world.
