SEEING GOD
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Matthew 5:8
Blessed (happy, enviably fortunate, and spiritually prosperous—possessing the happiness produced by the experience of God’s favor and especially conditioned by the revelation of His grace, regardless of their outward conditions) are the pure in heart, for…
they shall see God! (Matthew 5:8 Amplified)
Apparently…
having a pure heart is a BIG Deal
What a “pure heart” isn’t…
Rule-keepers crying “foul” because disciples were eating without washing their hands…
Jesus responds…
- “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.” Mark 7:6-7
What a “pure heart” isn’t…
- Lip service
- Acts of worship, necessarily
- Human rules related to religious worship
The Problem Was Not Eating With Dirty Hands
Jesus said to the crowd, “…there is nothing outside of a person that can defile him by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles him.” For from within, out of the human heart, come evil ideas, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, evil, deceit, debauchery, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these evils come from within and defile a person.” Mark 7:14-15, 21-23
So the question becomes…
HOW
CAN
WE
HAVE
A RIGHT, “PURE” HEART
That enables us to see God?
The Heart Of Jesus
“Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
[“learn the unforced rhythms of grace”]
for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30
A “gentle, humble” heart will over come all vices.
There is nothing more important in your life than heart transformation from…weary & heavy to gentle and humble.
Sometimes God doesn’t change your situation because He’s trying to change your heart.
The mouth speaks what the heart is full of. Matthew 12:34
This is our prayer…
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a right and steadfast, a loyal spirit within me. Psalm 51:10
For the next few moments, contemplate, meditate, pray these words.
