This month, we take a break from clinical topics and along with guest host Dr. Nick Despotidis, discuss practice management with Dr. Eileen Lo. Dr. Lo, who attended the "Supercharge Your Practice" seminar at the Vision By Design conference, talks about the issues that she faced in growing her Ortho-K practice and how she overcame them. She offers valuable insight into the issues that all Ortho-K practitioners have to contend with.

Eileen Lo, O.D. FIAO

Dr. Eileen Lo graduated from UC Berkeley, School of Optometry in 1986. She started three private Optometric offices in the San Francisco East Bay region shortly after her graduation. She practices mainly primary eye care, with emphasis on medical Optometry and specialty contact lenses. She enjoys working with children, especially in the control of myopia and other refractive errors.

Distinguished as a Fellow of the International Academy of Orthokeratology (IAO) and Orthokeratology Academy of America (OAA), Dr. Lo has been fitting Orthokeratology lenses on patients since 1996. With 14 years of experience and relentless and continuous acquisition of knowledge for better lens designs, Dr. Lo has been very successful with myopia control in children’s vision.

In addition to the busy schedule as an optometrist in her practices, Dr. Lo is dedicated to community service. Every year, Dr. Lo conducts vision screenings in elementary schools and eye care services in nursing homes. She believes that volunteering her time and professional expertise as a primary eye care physician is the best way to serve her community.

In her free time, Dr. Lo enjoys Zumba and hiking, as well as going to movies and shopping with her three beautiful daughters. As a loyal fan of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors, she also attends and cheers at every home game. Every year in fall, when not attending OAA meetings, she travels to her home town of Hong Kong to visit family and friends

Nicholas Despotidis, O.D. FIAO

Nicholas Despotidis graduated with honors from The State College of Optometry in New York. He later completed a residency in vision therapy and pediatric vision at SUNY in 1986. Dr. Despotidis established his vision care practice in Hamilton Square, NJ with Dr. Barry Tannen, in 1987. Their practice, EyeCare Professionals, PC, along with partner Dr. Ivan Lee, provides full scope optometric services to over 20,000 patients in a 5,500 sq. ft. facility. They treat children seeking corneal reshaping four full days per week. Their book, "My Children Are Nearsighted Too," has been translated into three languages.

Dr. Despotidis is a diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, the College of Optometrists in Vision Development and the Orthokeratology Academy of American.

Thomas J. Weshefsky, O.D., FIAO

Ortho-K Podcast Host

Dr. Thomas J. Weshefsky graduated from Biscayne College in 1976 with a degree in Biology. He obtained a B.Sc. degree in physiological optics in 1985 and earned his Doctor of Optometry degree, graduating with honors from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1987. He began his orthokeratology practice while serving an externship with Dr. Robert Morrison of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 1986. In 1997 he was among a handful of optometrists from New Jersey who studied with Dr. Jim Day, the developer of one of the early reverse geometry lenses. Dr. Weshefsky participated in the first ever Global Orthokeratology Symposium in Toronto in 2002 and joined the OAA at its inception. In 2009 he completed his credentialling and earned his Fellowship in the Orthokeratology Academy of America where her currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors.

Dr. Weshefsky opened his private practice in New Jersey in 1988 and practiced there until relocating to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 2006.
