Omkring 800 000 personer i Sverige har astma och 400 000 -700 000 personer KOL. Varje år dör omkring 3 000 personer till följd av KOL och dödligheten ökar, i synnerhet bland kvinnor. Det gjorde att Socialstyrelsen år 2015 tog fram nationella riktlinjer för vård vid astma och KOL. Utvärderingen tre år senare visar att långt ifrån alla verksamheter följer rekommendationerna.
