18 Patterns Of Jonathan Magno - Challenges of Communicating & Maintaining Respect
Manage episode 311944325 series 3204457
I met Jon towards the end of 2018. I didn't realize that he goes way back with some of our mutual friends. From his involvement with Basement to being a former piano student of my future mother-in-law, it felt like we've known each other for quite some time. Jon is outright cool and collective. With his calm demeanor, he made me feel welcomed from the get-go. I appreciate his ability to stay engaged in a conversation. He often asks questions that candidly lead to more questions to things I rarely think about. This reflects on his approach towards communicating with children and youth. Being a youth pastor, Jon learned how to carefully navigate through the different personalities he encounters with his students. A coach, teacher, pastor, and becoming a counselor, Jon finds himself in a position where respect and dignity are a balancing act. There is a sense of pay it forward between a teacher-student relationship that Jon hopes to instill as he maintains his integrity and personal convictions. It is a calling as he coined it to be given the opportunity of teaching and counseling. It is no easy job for many educators and teachers to establish their leadership role and be given much appreciation for the help they wilfully provide. This is what Jon and I had to process in the midst of understanding how we can connect to people and how respect is a huge part of communicating what we lack or long for. There may be no right or wrong way to communicate in some cases but there are definitely boundaries that Jon believes is rooted in love.
