Abby is a health educator and freelance writer currently living in Washington, DC.

The best career decision she's ever made was quitting her job. When she’s not trying to make the world a healthier place, you can find her taking selfies with her cats (Mila and Rupert), hunting down the best-grilled cheese, or picking up every penny she sees because they remind her of her grandfather.

What We Cover:

  • How early exploration, trying tons of new things as a child and young adult, allowed her to cross things off her list, and get closer to things she wanted to do and study.
  • Abby talks through her experience of getting to her senior year and realizing she was unsure of her next step but knew she was getting closer to work she enjoyed and decided to pursue her Masters of Public Health.
  • In this episode we tackle rejection. Abby talks about the job search process and how she realized that it was sometimes more helpful to keep parts of the process (e.g. rejection or acceptance) to herself.
  • Abby talks through learning about herself, breaking down what she did and didn’t like, exploring what she needed in a work environment, and understanding what type of work fulfilled her and what drained her.
  • When Abby realized she wanted to leave her job she also determined that she didn’t want to leap from her job to another role without taking the time to reflect on all she had learned about herself over the last couple of years.
  • Job Application tip: Be yourself in your cover letter. Abby talks about her cover letter to The Muse, which included bullet points and a GIF, and it helped her land an internship at The Muse.
  • Final words of wisdom: In the job search, keep in mind, no doesn’t mean never…it may just mean not right now.
