Paul O’Hanlon gives us a patient’s perspective on healthcare on this episode of the Perspectives on Healthcare podcast with Rob Oliver. In Paul’s own words, he is a native Pittsburgher and “a guy with a disability.” He joined Rob Oliver for the Guinness World Record Setting patient interview marathon. For anyone who is not from Pittsburgh, Paul is a local disability advocacy legend. He has a long history of passionate and persistent advocacy for people with disabilities.

Here are 3 things that stood out as Paul O’Hanlon shared a patient’s perspective on healthcare:

  • Sometimes, patients need more than just monitoring. They need to be led through the healthcare process and system. Medical professionals can provide the guidance that patients might need.
  • Many healthcare heroes are unsung. They are the nurses and other staff members who provide compassionate care and support.
  • Medical professionals (and people in general) make assumptions about people with disabilities that are inaccurate. Often times, they have lowered expectations for anyone that has a disability. Paul has advocated for people to develop a more nuanced and personal understanding of the disability population.

Rob Oliver is “Your Keynote Speaker”, addressing quality healthcare, resilience and excellence in adversity. To book Rob Oliver as a speaker at your next event visit:
