Am 31.12.2022 ist Papst emeritus Benedikt XVI. gestorben. Als Josef Kardinal Ratzinger wurde er im April 2005 zum Papst gewählt. Er stammt aus dem Bistum Passau und wurde in Marktl am Inn geboren. Im Februar 2013 erklärte er seinen Rücktritt. Seitdem lebt er zurückgezogen in einem Kloster in den vatikanischen Gärten. Im März 2013 wurde Papst Franziskus als sein Nachfolger gewählt. Benedikt XVI. hatte immer eine enge Verbindung in seine Heimat, vor allem zum Gnadenort Altötting. (Bild: Friedenberger/Bayer)
