Eric Dorfman is an author, a professor, a scientist and in early 2020 he became the Director and CEO of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. He also sits on the Executive Board of the International Council of Museums. He has previously served as the Director of Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Museum of Natural History, and he has studied and worked and lived in California, Australia and New Zealand as well. We talk to Eric about what drew him to the job and the city of Raleigh, and a range of topics from dinosaurs to opera and, of course, the current state of museums in a pandemic, as well as the future of museums.
Ashton and Hayes also bring back "Interesting Things" since a lot has happened outside of coronavirus news over the last 6 weeks--while at the same time, of course, nothing is unaffected by coronavirus news. We bring back some normalcy talking openings and closing and building and demolitions.
Special thanks to Papa Murphy's Take N Bake Pizza of Raleigh--who are still open and serving safe, delicious dinners--and Steele Residential, who has graciously donated their ad time during the pandemic to local non-profits, this episode they're supporting A Place At The Table
