Episode 9: When is MMA abusive? A Self Defense Critique
The grey area is where much of reality exists, at least for me.
For me to understand something I have to chew on it before I swallow. I need to get down to the roots of the issue. And go through a process of playing “devils advocate”. This is a formula I use when trying to understand something I read or watch. I have found this to be the best way for me to avoid my own natural bias.
A recent video has “broke the internet” showing a fight between two Junior High Kids. One of which is apparently bullying the other. When one of the kids is tired of the bullying behavior he initiates combat.
I say a fight then ensues only because they were both vying for position. But the reality is, this wasn’t a fight. A fight is a struggle between two people. That is not what I saw in this video.
This was an MMA trained student versus an untrained student. In the end the MMA representative fully outclassed the bully. I call this a Giant vs Ant scenario.
It is my position that this display, as dynamically pleasing to the eye as it was, was not necessary considering the level of danger I perceived in the video. In Episode 9 we discuss Self Defense and the power a trained individual possesses. And with power, comes great responsibility.
