Nearly exactly a week ago a man stepped into a LGBTQ Latinx club in Orlando and shot over a hundred people, killing 49.
I usually make personal mixes, but this is specifically as a message for my friends and ‘family’ who are living scared, worried about what happening in the US, UK, and the political upheaval….A message for peace and unity across and among all people. I make sense of the world through music, and in times of need I turn to music, and when in dire need I usually make a mix or podcast.
Nearly every track is a message. A musical message of hope (and a little righteous anger in there too) that I’ve found helped in the last week, and eclectic as usual going from hiphop to drum and bass, house to shoegaze and ambient. The world is a scary place at the moment, so I created a mix with hope, defiance, resistance and strength. Hope that things will get better, defiance that we will get our rights, resistance to fight the extremists, we will stay strong.
Ultimately this is my ‘Fuck Em All Pride mix’ that if I was on DJing on a float I’d blast out, Loud and Proud. This is my coming out fighting soundtrack. Let’s start a queer riot!
