In this episode, your host Amy Milne gets real with Kari Bodell, Vice President, Development Programs Strategy at Susan G. Komen. To say that Kari's experience working in the peer-to-peer and event fundraising space is extensive would be an understatement. Her robust career has taken her to some of the most influential non-profit organizations and consulting agencies in the U.S., and we feel lucky anytime we get to listen and learn from her. After walking us through some of the signature event programs that her team manages at Susan G. Koman, Kari and Amy dive into the good stuff. Kari shares her favourite part of working on the agency side and hits us with the hard truth that if you're working with an agency and they're not really pushing you to think differently, you might not be getting your money's worth. Even if you don't work with a consultant, Kari and Amy agree on the fact that non-profit organizations should be asking themselves the hard questions and most importantly, reaching out to each other to help find the answers. Our 'light bulb' moment happened when Kari noted that the peer-to-peer and event fundraising industry is still rapidly developing, so let's develop it together! Not only is Kari a wealth of knowledge and passionate about the work she does, but she's one of our fave good humans, so buckle up and enjoy the ride!
Kari loves to connect and share with other non-profit event pros, so feel free to reach out to her directly on LinkedIn.
”Know where your resources are and know who you can go to for help and never hesitate to phone a friend in the space.” – Kari Bodell
